Clearpage

Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 September 2026

Clearpage has no accounts and no analytics, and never tracks you. Safari applies Clearpage’s blocklists itself and never reports your browsing to us. The free version shows one ad from Google AdMob, described below; Clearpage Pro and Remove Ads turn it off. The only information that ever reaches us is a problem report, and only when you choose to send one.

Blocking happens on your device

Clearpage’s blocklists are ordinary files stored on your device. Safari, iOS and macOS apply them locally using the blocking engine built into the system. Clearpage is never told which websites you open, and there is no mechanism by which it could be.

Keeping the blocklists up to date

Clearpage downloads its blocklists and help articles from this website. These are static files, identical for everyone, fetched with an ordinary web request that carries no identifier, account or device ID.

As with any request to any website, the server hosting these files (GitHub Pages) receives your IP address in order to send a reply. Clearpage does not log, store or process it, and it is not linked to anything else. GitHub’s handling of that request is covered by its own privacy statement.

All-apps blocking

If you turn on all-apps blocking, your device checks addresses against a compact filter stored locally. Most addresses are resolved on the device and nothing leaves it.

When the local filter cannot rule an address out, your device asks Clearpage’s lookup server using Private Information Retrieval: the question is encrypted so the server can compute an answer without learning what was asked. The request is sent through an Apple relay that hides your IP address from the server. Neither Clearpage nor Apple can see which websites you visit.

This is not a VPN. Your network traffic never passes through Clearpage.

Ads in the free version

On iPhone and iPad, the free version of Clearpage shows one ad on its Status screen, served by Google AdMob. There are no ads in Clearpage Pro, after the one-time Remove Ads purchase, on Mac, on Apple Vision Pro, or in any of Clearpage’s Safari extensions.

To show the ad, limit how often it appears, measure it and prevent fraud, Google’s software in the app receives your IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), device and app identifiers such as the identifier for vendor, information about your device and the Clearpage version, and how you interact with the ad. Clearpage asks Google for non-personalised ads only, never asks for permission to track you across apps and websites, and never shares what you browse in Safari with Google or anyone else.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google’s consent form asks for your choices before any ad is requested, and you can change them at any time under Support → Privacy Choices in the app. Google’s use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

You can report an ad from the Report Ad button under it, or through the AdChoices mark in its corner.

Problem reports

Nothing is sent unless you fill in the report form and tap Send. When you do, the report contains exactly this:

WhatWhy
The website address you enteredTo reproduce the problem
The category and your descriptionTo understand what went wrong
Your email address — only if you choose to be contactedTo reply to you
App version and build, platform, system version, blocklist version, which Clearpage extensions are on, and your languageTo tell apart problems that only happen on certain versions

Reports are stored for 180 days and then deleted automatically. They are not used for marketing, are never sold, and are not shared with anyone.

Your IP address is not stored with your report. To stop the form being abused, the server counts submissions using a one-way hash of your IP address combined with a secret and the current date. The secret makes the hash impossible to reverse, and because the date is part of it, submissions cannot be linked across days. Those counters are deleted daily.

If you ask us to delete a report you sent, we will. Email the address under Support.

Purchases

Clearpage Pro and Remove Ads are billed by Apple through your Apple Account. Clearpage receives only whether a subscription is currently active and whether Remove Ads has been bought. It never sees your name, email address, or payment details.

What stays on your device

Your settings, the installed blocklists, and the record of whether your subscription is active are stored in Clearpage’s own storage on your device, shared between the app and its extensions. None of it is transmitted anywhere.

Children

Clearpage is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. Clearpage itself collects no personal data from anyone, including children, and the ad in the free version is limited to content suitable for general audiences.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it, and material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
